DAAD Scholarship 2025: Eligibility Criteria, Important Documents, Application Process
The Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) or German Academic Exchange Service, promotes the training of specialists from developed and newly industrialized countries. Local experts, who are networked with international partners, play a very important role in the sustainable development of their country. They are the best guarantee for giving better future with less poverty, more education, and health for all. The DAAD Scholarships are offered to foreign graduates from development and newly industrialized countries from all disciplines and with at least two years of professional experience the chance to take a postgraduate at a state-recognized German University.

Value of the DAAD Scholarships
- It depends on the academic level, the monthly payment of 934 euros for Graduates or 1,300 euros for doctoral candidates.
- Payments towards the accident and personal liability insurance cover
- Provides the travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding.
Eligibility Criteria for the DAAD Scholarship
- Candidates must fulfill the academic requirements and can be expected to complete a study program in Germany.
- They should have a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject
- Minimum of 2 years of professional work experience is required to apply for the scholarship
- Applicants can prove their development-related motivation and be expected to take social responsibility and initiate and support processes of change in their personal and professional environment after receiving the DAAD scholarship.
Language Skills Required for DAAD Scholarships
For Study Courses in German:
Successful passing of the language examination DSH 2 or TestDaF 4 is required, before the start of the study course. So, a minimum German Language of B1 is required at the time of application, and that needs to be proofed by providing a current certificate.
For Study Courses in English:
Proof of adequate language skills is required, as per the regulations of the respective course.

- A curriculum vitae in reverse chronological order without any unnecessary gaps. You have to use the Europass template at http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/.
- A Letter of Motivation concerning academic, professional, and personal reasons for applying for the DAAD Scholarships
- Certificate of Employment from the employer that shows a minimum of two years of relevant work experience after Bachelor’s degree
- Recent proof of language skills is required. For English – IELTS or TOEFL and for German – required for courses taught in German.
- Copy of Higher Education Degree Certificates
- Required a copy of Full Set of Transcript of Records
- Applicants from the People’s Republic of China are also asked to provide an APS Certificate
Application and Selection Procedure of DAAD Scholarships
The application has to be sent to the respective course directly. Make sure to refer to the official website for the application procedure (e.g. online application) and the documents to be submitted. It is important for the candidates to note that the applications sent to the DAAD will not be forwarded to the respective university. Candidates can apply for up to three courses.
- Candidates have to send the complete application directly to the according postgraduate course.
- Then, the selection committee will choose the potential candidates for the DAAD scholarship.
- DAAD will contact with the suggested candidates to upload their complete application to the official DAAD portal.
- After completing the selection process, the candidates will be informed accordingly.
